DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES The Department is a part of Faculty of Life Sciences in the University of Jammu. The Environmental Sciences subject was introduced in 2004 as a compulsory course for undergraduate students. From the session 2024-25 onwards, minor courses of this subject have also been introduced in this college under choice-based credit system as per NEP-2020. The course intends to develop conscious citizens with an awareness of the environment which will provide a deep understanding of the total environment and its associated problems. The department adopts classroom and field-based approach for teaching environmental sciences and ensuring that students develop an overall understanding of the subject. Vision:

The department imparts environmental education through following Ability Enhancement Compulsory Courses (AECC) and Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC), Minor courses and Multidisciplinary courses:
The students enrolled in the Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC) have to complete 1 credit each in theory and practical course (Total= 2 Credits). Our students have been selected for post-graduation in various national level universities. Career Opportunities available for Students after pursuing this Course: Environmental Sciences as a career offers immense job opportunities. It creates immense job opportunities such as environmental scientists, professors, researchers, environmental biologists, environmental modelers and environmental journalists, environmental consultants, environmental auditors, environmental managers etc. A candidate completing higher education through Masters or Doctoral degree in environmental sciences can get a good job opportunity in government, semi-government or private sector, according to his/her knowledge and experience. The department has constituted an Eco-club namely "Green Rangers" and also established a "Vermi-composting demonstration unit" in the college.
